Everything Old is New Again

I recently stumbled upon an old Life Magazine article full of photographs of high school students in the 1960s.  The article was all about high school fashion during this decade, and I was amazed at the similarities to today's fashion.  It seems as if all the hottest trends of the summer have their roots in the swingin' sixties.  I love looking through old fashion photos to see these original trends and then see how celebrities and fashion bloggers are reworking them today.  The number one key to wearing vintage clothing in general or trying out a vintage inspired trend is to not make it costumey.  You can avoid this by always mixing in new pieces with the old, mixing different decades of clothing, or mixing more casual pieces with dressier pieces.  For example, if you have an out-of-control 60's psychadelic maxi skirt, try pairing it with a simple slouchy t-shirt or crop top, flat sandals, and simple jewelry.  Wearing modern shoes is another sure fire way to bring an outfit up to date.  Below are some amazing pictures of original 60s fashion trends followed by the modern versions seen in today's fashion scene.
