This month, Street Scene has a focus on Mod of the 60's, inspired by the iconic Wide Eyed children of the same era. While the art of well-known and artist Magaret Keane was developed and marketed (by her infamous husband Walter), the sixtites is when the style (hers in particular) really took off, selling reproduction prints and postcards by the millions. For anyone who hasn't already seen "Big Eyes", the 2015 Tim Burton film, now would be a good time! The movie colorfully depicts the story of the couple and really makes you feel for all the little sad-eyed "waifs". Nowadays it's pretty common to stumble upon vintage prints of other artist's wide-eyed art and other similar imagery inspired by the style, we love them all! So much, we devoted one of our newest in-store venues to the style. Here are some of my favorite wide-eyed treasures that we have in store.
KEANE REPRODUCTION PRINT OF GIRL AND KITTY $48
EVE WIDE-EYED PRINTS $12 EACH
FRAMED PRECIOUS WIDE-EYED CAT $10
WIDE-EYED DOG CARDBOARD-BACKED PRINTS $8 EACH
FRAMED SAD BRUNETTE GIRL AND BOY $20
FRAMED DOG PAINT BY NUMBER PRINTS $12 EACH
PAIR OF FRAMED SAD BOY AND GIRL PRINTS $24
CERAMIC WIDE-EYED GIRL FIGURINE $10
We also have lots of other beautiful eye-themed goodies throughout the store from jewelry to ornaments ($10-$15)!
Hope you love these sad but precious kiddos as much as we do. Stop in store to see all the other 60s inspired mod goods we've got as well as the clothes from the November lookbook! Our own John Feather even created the most perfect backdrop to compliment this venue.
Until next time,
