ON THE FARM WITH LAURA KIRKPATRICK: GINGHAM DREAMS PART I
We spent an afternoon on the farm with model Laura Kirkpatrick & her daughter, Willow. We talked America's Next Top Model and chased the sunset in whimsical vintage dresses and bare feet.
We're just a bunch of Kentucky girls over here at Street Scene. We cannot deny a whimsical cotton farm dress. We've even dedicated an entire rack to them in the front of our store! There's just something so quintessentially summer about a flowy cotton dress- especially if it's gingham! And with the temps rising, we're ready to break out all of our favorite Summer dresses.
Although we believe they are forever timeless, gingham dresses are having a serious moment in fashion right now. A quick search of gingham on Need Supply, Opening Ceremony or Urban Outfitters (just to name a few) will bring up more options than you could imagine! Our favorite part of being a vintage store is spotting trends and expressing that with the originals! And who could be a better muse for these dresses than Laura Kirkpatrick?
A fellow Kentucky girl, Laura Kirkpatrick was a finalist on Cycle 13 of America's Next Top Model so she knows a thing or two about being a country girl at heart in a world of high fashion. She was also voted Fan Favorite because she's just about the sweetest & funniest person you'll ever meet- we can attest to that! We had such an incredible time shooting with Laura and her daughter, Willow, on their farm in Stanford, Kentucky. Each of Laura's looks are available in our Online Shop!

"I GOT WHAT I GAVE."
Laura was only 19 when she went to compete for the title of America's Next Top Model on Cycle 13. "I was basically a teenager that so every experience was so thrilling and exciting!" It didn't take long for Laura to find her place in the competition, but also in the heart's of people watching across the world. "I also was kind to everyone so even the “mean” girls were nice to me- I got what I gave." Laura was voted Fan Favorite and went on to compete in the very first season of America's Next Top Model: All Stars! She was given the title of "loveable" on the show, which we can all agree is very fitting.
Laura is wearing our Vintage Blue & White Gingham Dress with Heart Pockets. This dress is available in our online shop for $55.
"IT'S LIKE STEPPING IN TO A TIME MACHINE."
Laura has been shopping with us at Street Scene for years now, so it was only a matter of time before we made magic together! "I love the experience you relive by just walking in- it’s like stepping in to a time machine. Everything is all set up for your imagination to run wild, and the quality is always amazing!"
We always have so much fun exploring trends through the decades. Each of the dresses Laura wears speaks to a different time- we can see a young gal on the farm or even at a music festival in the 70s in this floral maxi. When it comes to vintage fashion, Laura is torn between the 1920s and the 1960s as her favorite.
"EVERYDAY I GET TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND BE CREATIVE."
Laura always had dreams of being a model. "Like a lot of girls, I romanticized the glam I saw in fashion magazines. Something about the Marilyn Monroe lifestyle made it look so beautiful and happy to be a model." Laura is also drawn to the creative side of modeling, which is just one of many reasons we were so excited to bring her into our world and throw some vintage dresses on her! "Everyday I get to do something different and be creative."
"I FEEL IT KEEPS ME CREATIVE AND IN TOUCH WITH FASHION"
Being a model means Laura is constantly experimenting with different styles and looks, but she's still a country girl at heart and spends a lot of time on her farm running her business, Kentucky Darling Meats. "I’m very boho and jeans and my favorite tee shirt are a must! But I love the challenge of putting bold pieces or a new trend together. I feel it keeps me creative and in touch with fashion."
